Latest Chinese requests are as follows:-

BEGINS:

(A) Ting of Suvsendet.

The surrender of Japanese Forces on Hong Kong Island to Rear Admiral Harcourt is to take place as soon as practicable following the overall surrender at Nanking of Japanese Forces within the Genoralissimo' s Areas of responsibility. Date now ostimated for the Hong Kong surrondor is the fifth or sixth of September. The Chinese have no objection whatever to eloments of the British Fleet arriving at Hong Kong before the date for surrender, landing troops on Hong Kong Island disarming Japanese, setting up Civil Administration, and taking such precautions as Admiral Harcourt considers necessary, provided the surrender is not signed until the agreed date.

(B) Military Information.

The British Commander at Hong Kong will furnish to Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek, through General Pan, or other authorised representative, all military information obtained from the Japanese Forces at Hong Kong. Specifically, the British Commander in Hong Kong will require the Japanese Commander, at or immediately following the Hong Kong surrender, all of the information required by the terms of General Order Number One which is to be issued by General Ho as the General- issimo's representative immediately following the Nanking surrender. This General Order Number One is an adaption of the provisions of General Order Number One to be issued by the Supreme. Commander for the Allied Powers, immediately following

overall surrender at Tokyo. Copies of this information wi11 El be furnished to Goneral Pan or other authorised representative

of the Generalissimo. General Hayas has been furnished a draft 945

copy of the proposed General Order Number One to be issued by Gonoral Ho at Nanking.
